YMMV / The Blacks, the Greens and the Reds

  • Alternative Character Interpretation:
    • Alyssa Targaryen, Leonyra's younger twin daughter caused some debate as to whether her antics are simply that of a spoiled brat who was coddled due to her health by her mother or a psychopath who enjoys hurting her siblings and even went as far as trying to murder her own uncle out of spite. Word of God is that Alyssa is the former and that her character arc is her basically learning that her actions has consequences and that she will learn from it.
    • Helaena readers are divided to the fact she a deeply troubled 'dragon dreamer' who was pushed to choose her brother Aegon over Rhaenyra due to the fact that her prophetic dreams kept telling her to do otherwise meant deaths for her and her children. Others notes she only chose Aegon because she knew in her dreams Rhaenyra was the only one person in her dreams who did not harm her and therefore choosing Aegon is a safe option as if her brother fails, Rhaenyra is more willing to forgive Helaena (and force the Blacks to do so) than the Greens who will kill her and her children should she go Black from the start. Not a few view her abandonment and flight from King's Landing after Visery's death as a cowardly betrayal, far worse than Aegon's attempt to force a Council and thus war while Daemon gears for an invasion from the East.
  • Broken Base: A given due to the length and sheer depth of the plot. Some fans found Leonyra's love for her siblings as a detriment and wished she would pull a Tywin and had them all imprisoned, exiled or killed. Others note that politically that would tank Leonyra's support and enjoyed that it's not simply Blacks = Good/Greens = Bad that are often applied with this kind of AU.
  • Fan Nickname: The self-inserted Rhaenyra is often referred to as Leonyra.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Helaena is a dreamer that hates her dreams. Come the House of the Dragon revealing that Helaena is canonically a dreamer who spews prophecy left and right all the time.
  • He's Just Hiding:
    • A lot of readers were deeply upset when Rolph was declared dead - a casualty of the Lannisters once Viserys died - and invoked this trope. Especially, since there were some vagueness in his manner of death that it leaves the readers a great possibility that he might just be hiding and is pretending to be someone else before revealing himself. This prove to be true and many fans rejoiced that he turned out to be alive and was committing guerilla warfare against the Lannisters during the Dance.
    • When Daemon murders Aemon, Rhaenyra's eldest son, many readers hoped that it had been a case of unreliable narrator since it was during a chaotic dragon fight and Jocelyn (the narrator) was in the midst of being quite busy trying not to die herself. Some even hope that it would be a case of Viserys II in the original canon and that Aemon is injured but still not found.
