YMMV / The Amazing Maurice

Go To

  • Nightmare Fuel: How the Rat King was formed. Eight rats were thrown in a bucket to be taken to the Pit, and the close quarters in there caused them to tumble over each other before their tails got tangled together. The process caused their minds to merge into one being, who becomes The Assimilator of rats, brainwashing the creatures and drawing them into his body to grow bigger and stronger. It's really unsettling to imagine, especially when his identity is revealed under the Boss Man persona, as he starts to physically and mentally draw Maurice's rat posse towards him to bring them into the collective. And when Keith manages to dispel his humanoid body, the initial eight-man rat group are revealed to be standing in a circle, holding hands, while their conjoined tails are wreathed in unsettling blue light, and... pulsate like some sort of heart. It's unsettling to look at.
  • Viewer Pronunciation Confusion: Before the film, most fans pronounced Maurice's name as "Morris", including Stephen Briggs reading the audiobook. When the trailer dropped and consistently used "Maureece", there was some minor controversy. In the actual film, Maurice insists on "Maureece", but Peaches consistently uses "Morris"... as does Death in his scene, hinting that it probably is "Morris" and Maurice just insists on a "fancier" pronunciation.
  • Uncanny Valley: The Boss Man, a mysterious individual who is clad in all-concealing clothing that masks his identity, constantly moves and contorts his body in ways that feel too fluid for a regular human being, as if he lacks bones and instead is some sort of Blob Monster. Plus we also never see his eyes, there's only a small dark slit in the head wrappings under his hat. As it turns out, he isn't human at all, and his "body" is comprised of hundreds of rats that are controlled by the Rat King.
