• Cliché Storm: But that's precisely what makes the book so entertaining: it takes a variety of cliches, tropes and stock characters on a gleeful, carefree ride.
• Cult Classic: Didn't make splashing waves when it came out, but still has a dedicated fandom, decades later.
• Vindicated by History: The book had the misfortune to come out when Polish fantasy literature was in its edgy phase and populated almost exclusively by '90s Anti-Hero or based around faux-folk themes (usually both). So naturally a book that went in the opposite direction was derided to no end as "childish" and "stupid" (to skip the less than savoury adjectives). It re-emerged about a decade later, in turn surprising people why something so fun and engaging went below anyone's radar.
