  • The Scrappy: "The Chronicle of the Throne of Thorns" introduces Aluin, child of Reformist priest Father Sarvola and the nature spirit Ala. Aluin is a playful being of "pure creative power", a god in the immortal form of a human boy. He exists beyond the rules of the game, and can do almost anything he wishes. "Mother of Darkness" confirms that he could probably purge all corruption from the cursed forest of Davokar, ending the whole saga three books early, but he won't. As written, the player characters can persuade him to do small things, such as providing food and drink, but until the final chapter Aluin won't do anything more to change the world. Additionally, his presence as a living deity is presented as a curiosity that is largely ignored by the organised religions (devoted to far more distant, less powerful gods) or other power blocs. The end result is that players and GMs seem to consider him an awkward, needless presence who adds little to the arc and disrupts the Dark Fantasy of the setting.
