- Love to Hate: Katrina Skinner is a toxic, toxic woman, but her ability to play things to her advantage just so she won't have to john the rat-race make her a fairly compelling villain.
- Retroactive Recognition: Mia Wasikowska plays Lilya, the manicurist that Katrina tries to corrupt.
- Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: Just about every supporting character is weak-willed and unambitious. The lead is a sociopathic dragon who never learns or suffers any consequence. The police interviews taken after the events of the film but interspersed within the narrative hint that there will be some justice in the climax but it ends with Detective Andretti admitting that they don't have enough evidence to convict Katrina, so she's able to play innocent.
