Memetic Mutation: The scene where Troi gets all her empathic powers back at once has seen some NSFW manipulation. If you really, really like Toilet Humor, here's one.
She Really Can Act: Not that Marina Sirtis couldn't, of course; she just rarely came off as strongly as other members of the main cast. That said, "The Loss" is one of her most powerful performances in the franchise.
It's strange that Troi never really interacts with Geordi in this episode, since he's lived with a disability his whole life. Which might be the point: since Geordi was born disabled, he never had to experience becoming disabled, thus Troi likely didn't think he would empathize with her situation more than the rest of the crew.
Troi also isn't actually the only empath or telepath on board. There's at least one Vulcan (Dr. Selar) and probably more. This situation absolutely calls for a mind meld, but that would have revealed too early that her senses were overwhelmed.
Values Resonance: Marina Sirtis once said she got a lot of positive feedback on this episode from Trekkies with disabilities.
