YMMV / Star Trek: Strange New Worlds S1E05 "Spock Amok"

Go To

  • Fridge Brilliance:
    • Spock's experiences in this episode make it easier to understand why Spock is far more willing than the rest of the crew to believe Captain Kirk when told that Janice Lester has forced her and Kirk's minds to swap bodies so she can take over Kirk's life in Star Trek S3 E24 "Turnabout Intruder".
    • When Dr. M'Benga is preparing Spock and T'Pring to swap back katras, he says that any procedure that deals with the mind can be effected by emotion and that's possibly why the initial katra sharing didn't work as intended. This could possibly mean that the unexpected katra swap was an unintended consequence of a hybrid vulcan who struggles with emotions using a ritual intended for full vulcans who are better at controlling their emotions.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: For someone whose major life issue is identity and how genetics and biology shape who you are, Spock is surprisingly incurious about life in T'Pring's body. Even if it's waved off as being too dignified and logical to have prurient curiosity about the obvious male to female differences, he doesn't even seem particularly curious about being in the body of a full-blooded Vulcan. When asked about this by Chapel, he handwaves it away by saying his focus is on resolving the matter before it affects T'Pring's career.
