YMMV / Star Trek: Section 31 - Control

Go To

  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • What if everything in the entire Star Trek universe, every mission, every communicator, every PADD, every starship, every starbase, every private conversation, every relationship, every reality warping piece of technology, and everything that had ever been touched by the Federation was simply part of the brain of an artificial sentience with the power to dictate literally anything and everything it wished to happen?
    • The scene where Caliq Azura uses her telepathy to analyze and exploit the worst memories of the Federation ambassador to Cardassia in order to manipulate her. Made even worse by the fact that Lagan Serra had been in the Bajoran resistance, providing plenty of material.
  • Paranoia Fuel: For a Sci-Fi book with androids, aliens, telepathy, faster than light travel, teleportation, and many other clearly unrealistic elements, its fundamental premise of a technologically advanced society being secretly governed by an AI with only simplistic moral awareness is technologically possible right now.
  • Tear Jerker: Lal goes borderline catatonic (for an android) after the fight on Cardassia Prime, where she had to kill some of the Section 31 agents to protect herself and the rest of the group. She started to run tens of thousands of tactical simulations and convinced herself that she had failed as an android because she ought to have been able to capture them without lethal force. Data explains that he understands her decisions and says he could never stop loving Lal, no matter what she might do.
