• Jerkass Woobie: Dukat makes no effort to hide his arrogance and ambition, but he's been demoted to the captain of cargo freighter after he brought Ziyal back to Cardassia. His wife left him, and his mother disowned him. He finds the Klingons engaged in acts of war against Cardassia and Kira helps him capture a Bird of Prey, it has given the information to launch a counter attack on the Klingons, and he gets his position back, only to learn that the Cardassian government prefers diplomacy instead of fighting back.
• Strawman Has a Point: If Dukat didn't destroy his freighter with the Klingon crew inside, the Klingons would figure out that one of their Birds of Prey has been stolen and would have been made adjustments to their battle plans and ship status reports which was in the computer of the Bird of Prey; as well as more easily warn other Klingon ships of the identity of the stolen ship.
