• Designated Villain: While initially treated as Both Sides Have a Point in the debate for the Skrreeans request for sanctuary, the episode ends with Haneek giving Kira a brutal "The Reason You Suck" Speech, to which Kira has no rebuttal, making the episode seem to end soundly on the Skrreeans' side. Given that the Skrreean can come off as Unintentionally Unsympathetic, it seems pretty unfair to Kira and the Bajorans.
• Retroactive Recognition: Character actor and perennial "Hey it's that guy" Leland Orser has a nonspeaking role as one of Haneek's bonded males. It's his first of four appearances in the Star Trek universe.
• Unintentionally Unsympathetic: The Skrreeans. The audience is supposed to be conflicted and see that Both Sides Have a Point about the proposal to immigrate the whole species to Bajor, with the final lack of cooperation coming across as a tragedy. However, the Bajorans have a much better point about the dangers to their own people, and there's nothing ever stated to be wrong with Draylon II, so the Skrreeans' insistence that the Bajorans gamble their very survival on the immigration is completely unreasonable. Rather than tragic, Haneek's spiteful condemnation of Kira and her bitterness over going to Draylon II both feel extremely entitled. It doesn't help that the Skrreeans have been largely unsympathetic throughout the episode, what with Haneek's condescending misandry and the males' pugnacity.
