• Alternative Character Interpretation:
  • Is Red actually real, or is she just a manifestation of Wolf's sexual repression and frustration towards her lecherous, unfaithful husband?
  • It's unclear whether or not the Monstress actually loves the Fisherwoman back or if she's just playing the long game to get another meal. She's attracted by the Fisherwoman's blood and seems to be rather forceful when the two are having sex, but doesn't explicitly cross any boundaries and mostly keeps her distance unless she's wanted.
• Nightmare Fuel:
  • Red's eyes peering out of the Husband's gutted corpse is pretty eerie, not helped by the fact that this is the only time we ever see her eyes in the entire book.
  • Near's revenge on the Prince, while absolutely deserved, is also rather graphic, with her first stitching his mouth shut and wiring him up with her threads before pulling them taut and seemingly slicing his head apart in the process.
