  • Award Snub: Many consider "Someone's Waiting for You" a better song than "You Light Up My Life". Of course, "Nobody Does It Better" is regarded as one of the biggest snubs in Oscar history, so there's that, too.
  • Awesome Music: Pretty much every album she ever did is a great piece of music from start to finish. And she's been able to maintain that level of quality throughout a series of genre and style changes. Even her disco album has some shining moments of greatness. Of course, with a voice like hers, it's hard to go wrong.
  • Dead Horse Genre: The popularity of disco music was already dwindling at a breakneck pace by the time Shelby recorded her late '70s disco/funk album with Ian Jack.
  • Epic Riff: As unlikely as it may seem, yes! Granted, "Scotland the Brave" obviously isn't an original of hers, but it changes nothing.
  • Growing the Beard: You've Been on My Mind re-established her as quite the jazz singer and songwriter. Cast Your Fate to the Wind, to a lesser extent, though it isn't really that far removed from her previous '60s material.
  • Heartwarming Moments: This is, very much, her bag. But special credit need go to her rendition of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas".
  • One-Scene Wonder: Her songs tend to be among the most memorable parts of the films she's featured in.
  • Tear Jerker: Shelby's greatest ability as a singer is to embody the emotion found in a song. As a result, it goes without saying that most of her songs qualify.
