YMMV / Shake, Rattle & Roll Extreme

Go To

  • Applicability: Mukbang can be interpreted as an allegory for consumerism. The Kauri monsters have no other goal except to eat endlessly, and soon enough the influencers (who are symbols of consumerism themselves) become flesh-hungry monsters too.
  • Critical Dissonance: A very unusual example for a Filipino film. (Often, when this happens, the critics will dislike the film, but it's beloved by the audience.) Shake, Rattle & Roll Extreme has pretty poor reviews from audiences, but mixed to positive reviews from critics. Even Rappler, which is known for being a highly critical publication, released a fairly positive review for Extreme that praised Mukbang in particular.
  • He Really Can Act: Ninong Ry is a vlogger in real life, not an actor, yet delivered one of the most highly praised performances as Chef Kino in Mukbang.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Most of them may not be the greatest people, but it's still pretty hard not to feel bad at what the influencers go through. For example, the Rich Bitch Ashley being forced to eat human entrails raw right before getting killed.
  • Just Here for Godzilla:
    • Some people consider Mukbang or Rage to be the only parts of Extreme worth sticking around for.
    • Some people only watch the film to see the talented, beautiful Jane De Leon kicking some zombie ass.
  • Squick: Overlapping with Nightmare Fuel, but plenty of viewers have remarked that Mukbang has made them terrified of eating dinuguan (Filipino pork blood stew) due to the major plot point of the influencers unknowingly being fed human blood and meat stew.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: Many of the negative reviews from audiences mention how different this film is from previous Shake, Rattle & Roll installments.
