YMMV / S.W.O.R.D. (2020)

Go To

  • Awesome Moments:
    • S.W.O.R.D.S's first day on the job? Basically, using their combined powers to loot the center of all creation.
    • Eden punching a possessed Cable with a sun.
    • Storm being crowned Queen Regent of the Solar System.
    • Similarly, Storm solidifying her claim to the throne in Issue #8 by beating Tarn the Uncaring without the use of her powers.
    • Issue #10 and #11 has Gyrich trying to play S.W.O.R.D.. Turns out Brand knew all along, outplays him, and then kills him.
  • Catharsis Factor: After decades of being one of the most face-punchingly irritating human beings in Marvel Comics (or just plain disgusting) and never getting any comeuppance for it, seeing Brand space Gyrich after lecturing them on how much of an idiot they are is pretty damn satisfying. Scary as well, but satisfying.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Khora of the Burning Heart is already becoming a fan-favorite.
  • Funny Moments:
    • Issue #1: Everyone making no secret that they hate Cortez.
    • From Issue #2: "I am Mentallo...and this is my THINK TANK!" Also, the very first image we see of Mentallo is him taking a dump as he tells Abigail Brand he's busy. Keep in mind that this is right in the middle of an alien invasion.
    • Issue #4: Whiz Kid reveals the Think Tank is also capable of turning into a robot walker. And it can play music.
    • Issue #6: Doctor Doom storming S.W.O.R.D.'s meeting with alien representatives starting by demanding to know why he wasn't invited in the first place.
    • Issue #7: It veers into Black Comedy but it turns out Krakoa has been covering up the murder of Scarlet Witch. When Brand orchestrates a Big Damn Hero scenario to curry favor with the Kree-Skrull alliance, a barely cognizant Teddy reveals that Billy had been trying to contact Wanda since the Gala, but to no avail, presumably, because Dormmamu must have cut off communication. Brand's response: Sure, Let's Go with That.
  • Like You Would Really Do It: Many fans had figured that with all the detail the series had given to Brand's abilities as The Chessmaster there'd be no way the situation with Wiz-Kid would be as cut and dried as him working for Orchis, and that Brand either knew or had already anticipated this. Sure enough, issue 10 reveals she had.
  • Shocking Moments: In Issue #11. Brand is the traitor.
