- And You Thought It Would Fail: John Sayles made the film basically as a calling card, and thought it would end up on television. Instead, it ended up being critically acclaimed and, while not a box-office smash, made $2 million against a budget of $60,000, which allowed him to have a directing career. The film also helped kickstart the independent film movement of the 1980's that eventually exploded in the 90's.
