YMMV / Ramsay's Boiling Point

Go To

  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • The scenes from Beyond Boiling Point involving Ronald Ramsay's drug addiction, along with Gordon's comments about how drugs destroy lives and families, have a somewhat harsher ring to them when you consider that David Hector Dempsey, one of the top-ranking members of Gordon's kitchen staff who is featured prominently in the series and was even chosen to accompany him on the Australia trip, died of a cocaine overdose just over two years after the series was first broadcast. Years later, Hell's Kitchen contestant Paulie Giganti likewise died from an overdose.
    • After Scotland lose their opening 1998 World Cup game to defending champions Brazil in Boiling Point, Ramsay says "maybe next time". While in-context he's referring to their next two matches — against Norway, which ended up being a draw, and then against Morocco, which they lost — after that particular World Cup there hasn't been another "next time" for Scotland, as they haven't qualified for the competition in the years since, with the country not qualifying for any international tournament until the European Championships in 2021.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Gordon is shown repeatedly saying he's not a celebrity chef and that he doesn't want to be. It wouldn't be long before he became a mainstream media figure with dozens of shows under his belt.
