  • Johanna's father is a fanatical Catholic priest (pre-Great Schism) who is married and has children. Though there had been calls for priests to be unmarried since the 4th century, this wasn't universally mandated until the 12th, and complete sexual abstinence was not expected until the 16th.
  • The Trial by Water scene may look stereotypical and better fit for the witch hunts of the Early Modern Period, but trials by water were indeed legal in the Carolingian Empire before Louis the Pious banned them in 829.
