- Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Pompo blowing herself up like a balloon to explain that she hates bloated, overly-stuffed movies. It's very brief and feels like a wacky cartoon spliced in the middle of a fairly realistic movie.
- Hilarious in Hindsight: The "Nyacademy Awards" are parodies of the real Academy Awards with a stylized cat's head in place of the man's head. Curiously enough a golden cat-shaped award was actually given in real life: Italy's Telegatto, awarded from 1984 to 2009 to popular TV personalities and broadcasts.
- The fact that the movie runs exactly 90 minutes (minus credits) is also a solid meta-joke that ties the whole thing together nicely.
- Memetic Mutation: The film briefly became infamous thanks to the fact that at one point Nathalie does a dance from Fortnite. However, during a Q&A session on Reddit, the director explained that it was a meme, but of a different kind! The "I Like It" Dance/Ii ne dansu was directly lifted from the videoclip of hip hop boy band DA PUMP's song "U.S.A.", which did become a meme of sorts in Japan and that the director inserted in the movie as an indirect homage to the United States.
- Protagonist Title Fallacy: Gene, not Pompo, is the real protagonist of the movie.
