• Angst Aversion: The ending in the Genesis version was viewed by some unnecessarily dark for a game that plays traditional JRPG tropes mostly straight, as in exchange for rewriting history, Hoston is forced to be left alone in what seems afterlife separated from reality, possibly for eternity. The HD remake addresses this by providing a Last-Second Ending Choice for an alternative ending that ends on a more positive note.
• Dancing Bear: It's a Sega Genesis game coming out a decade after the system's been officially ended. Everyone who still had their Genesis (or a modern update of the same) was likely to buy it for that alone.
