Glass claims that it'd been over a decade since his last "incident," which is why she felt safe letting him around his nephews. If Hibiscus did try and fight it and really hadn't molested any other children before Moss, then that does add a layer of tragedy to his character, despicable as he is and unforgivable as his actions are. But if Glass is wrong, and Hibiscus has molested other children in the interim, then, well...
• Creepy Awesome: Pet is utterly terrifying in appearance and remarkably eager to butcher itself a monster, but it's an awe-inspiring, heroic presence nonetheless. It showing Hibiscus its true face is terrifying and awesome.
