YMMV / Paris in the Twentieth Century

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Is Dufrenoy really a sympathetic character, merely a romantic idealist in a world that doesn't care, Born in the Wrong Century? Or just a sad, pathetic, out-of touch guy in a world which has rightly moved on? Clearly the author intends us to think the former, but some modern readers might find it much harder to sympathise.
  • Not So Crazy Anymore: The publisher rejected the work as being unbelievable. Modern commentators however take a more nuanced view, pointing out the uncanny accuracy of many of the predictions and how much it resonates with modern experiences, as well as those things which are wildly off the mark, and the (sometimes missed) dark satire which was very much of its time.
