• Alternate Character Interpretation: Was Sunburst really holding the Conflict Ball when he tried to get Twilight disqualified, or was he just trying to give Twilight a taste of her own medicine and putting on a really good act doing it? The latter becomes more plausible when you consider that he would have been out of the game for good if Twilight was disqualified. He may also have wanted to get Twilight back for getting him and Cranky disqualified for the latter sleeping.
• Base-Breaking Character: Twilight Sparkle's OCD exaggerated to the point of Jerkass Ball. Either it was an entertaining sendoff to her obsessive compulsive tendencies before she finally overcame it by the next episode, unpleasant but worth it to serve as the impetus for overcoming it, or an overly cringey and mean spirited relapse that hurt the notion she overcame it.

• Memetic Mutation: Twilight's faces throughout the episode provided plenty of exploitable fodder for image macros and jokes. Just take a look.
• Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Pinkie Pie is meant to be sympathetic due the mistreatment she receives from the Jerkass Ball-carrying Twilight. But while Twilight was unsympathetic as intended, Pinkie spouted nonsensical answers to many questions wanting to have fun unconcerned with Twilight's wish to win, which they would have done even if Twilight hadn't happened to be behaving badly enough to deserve it.
