YMMV / Little Bridge Island

Go To

  • Realism-Induced Horror: Each book has one:
    • No Judgement: The hurricane brings out a lot of it. Many people had to leave their pets behind, and are unable to get back onto the island thanks to the bridge blowing out. When Bree offers to help check on their pets, they are grateful.
    • No Offense: Mentioned by John, and the reason why he calls Tabitha's parents against her wishes. He says that if it were his daughter Katie who ran away, became pregnant, and left to die via a boyfriend who stole her cellphone, he would want to know. Indeed, when Tabitha's parents show up, their response is a mix of parental love, Anger Born of Worry, and relief that Molly saved their daughter.
    • No Words:
      • Jo Wright is worried that her father has no health insurance or retirement savings, but refuses to retire to a community with less cold after slipping and breaking his wrist twice in the New York winter. She spends most of the book trying to convince him to let her buy him a house in a place where she won't have to run and spend healthcare money.
      • Garrett seems like a bit of a No Social Skills nerd author but approachable. He tells Jo in Sincerity Mode that he loves her works and is outraged that Will belittled her. Jo senses there's something off about him but decides to ignore it. He has a habit of preying on underage girls that want to write and take mentoring lessons from him.
  • Tear Jerker: Jo's tragic backstory is that shortly after her mother died, a writer named Nicole Woods was caught plagiarizing her and depressing author Will Price. Will said to the press that Jo's works weren't good enough to plagiarize, which went viral and hurt her feelings. In the present, Will eventually admits to Jo that it was the stupidest thing he could have said and didn't know how he could make up for it.
