• Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: The scene featuring Perry White's 40th anniversary party has zero bearing on the plot, not even meriting a post-battle "Before we begin, I have to go back to the office and explain my disappearance away" comment on Superman's part. It kind of feels like an excuse for showing the Daily Planet staff in the story.
• Harsher in Hindsight: Superman and Supergirl try to talk the Kandorians into being enlarged on Earth because "There isn't a nation that wouldn't welcome [them] with open arms!" Thirty years later, the New Krypton event would prove both cousins utterly and tragically wrong.
