- Designated Evil: Frank is assumed this in the first act of the film — having escaped jail after serving years for murder and coming off as quite intimidating. However, when the truth is revealed, he becomes The Woobie.
- Hollywood Homely: Adele has disheveled, oily hair and wears minimal make-up. Seeing as she's portrayed by Kate Winslet, she's incredibly stunning.

- Frank also gets raped, is told his girlfriend's son is his, gets married to said girlfriend, is cheated on, and assumed a murderer when a push causes his wife to die and his son is found dead in the bathtub.
