** As usual, The True Arena, made worse by the fact that DX bosses can only be fought in the extra mode, preventing you from effectively practicing against them without spending some time playing that mode, as well as the fact that unlike ''Return to Dream Land''[='s=] True Arena (but like ''Super Star Ultra''[='s=] True Arena), the final battle isn't against a harder version of the normal final boss (though that battle is present), but against an entirely new variation of it that uses totally different attacks.
** The Extra Stage of Dedede's Drum Dash, which has a very fast rhythm and an extremely small area for error.

ViewerGenderConfusion: Thanks to the lack of voice acting, the androgynous bowl cut, and the fact that his name ends in "-a", Taranza is often occasionally mistaken for female at first glance.glance. [[spoiler:It doesn't help that, as ''VideoGame/KirbyPlanetRobobot'' later reveals, Queen Sectonia's original form looked like Taranza with longer eyelashes.]]

* ScrappyMechanic: Compared to the Super Abilities from [[VideoGame/KirbysReturnToDreamLand the previous game]], which activated screen-clearing moves with the touch of a button and then allowed Kirby to move normally, Hypernova requires him to move very slowly while using his superpowered inhale. On repeat playthroughs of the game, this can turn the Hypernova segments at the end of most levels into a tedious slog, rather than the satisfying power-up it's meant to be.

** In another ''[[Franchise/SuperMarioBros Mario]]'' example, this game takes place in a setting full of mysterious flowers, plants that give you bizarre powers, and a populace of flower people being ruled over by an insect monarchy. Nine years later, ''VideoGame/SuperMarioBrosWonder'' would come along, boasting many of these same traits (thankfully with a benevolent monarch this time around!). ''Wonder's'' third world Shining Falls even resembles this game's Wild World very closely!

* DisappointingLastLevel: Royal Road is considered by many to be a weak final level. While [[VideoGame/KirbysReturnToDreamLand Dangerous Dinner]] from the previous game was a deliberately shorter level leading up to the finale, and [[VideoGame/KirbyPlanetRobobot Access Ark]] from the next game keeps introducing new foes, puzzles, and environments, Royal Road is just ''long''. Three of its stages are some of the most expansive in the game (and two of them contain substantial Hypernova segments), while the other two consist of [[BossRush reused bosses]], and there's two long bonus stages as well. There's not quite enough variance in environments to counteract the length, but the stages are still enjoyable and the final boss sequence is considerably shorter than ''Return to Dream Land'''s.

Taranza is one of the main villains, so he's disqualified from being a "darkhorse".

Tier Induced Scrappy is no longer a trope.

* CatharsisFactor: For anyone who was scared by the Mad Piano in ''VideoGame/SuperMario64'', getting to see Kirby fight it and swallow it whole in this game is pretty satisfying.

** The Leaf ability has several powerful and fast attacks, especially Leaf Uppercut at close range, and an invincible dash move. However, what truly makes it broken is its guard; when guarding, Kirby is almost completely invincible, making most bosses much easier to outlast and defeat.

* ItsEasySoItSucks: Though the post-game can be quite challenging, the main campaign is pretty much a walk in the park, which hurt this game's reception among critics.

* ItsEasySoItSucks: Though the post-game can be quite challenging, the main campaign is pretty much a walk in the park, which hurt this game's reception among critics. The Hypernova sections in particular get this reception, as Kirby's inhale is powered up to such a level that he can easily defeat most enemies, the bosses aren't particularly challenging, and most of the level challenges are simple puzzles based around pulling things around by inhaling them.

* LowTierLetdown: Some Copy Abilities in ''Kirby Fighters'' are just ''bad''. Notoriously, Ninja and Archer, both of which are {{Game Breaker}}s in the game proper, were nerfed to the ground in ''Fighters''. They take roughly as much effort to master as Fighter, while having only a measly fraction of the possible DPS.

** Pyribbit, once he TurnsRed, immediately jumps to the background and summons three waves of giant lava pillars. These are very difficult to dodge — one variant has a tiny gap about Kirby's width, the second has a gap to the left and right sides, and the last one has no gaps but can be avoided by flying over. If one hits you, it'll drag you off the screen and drop you off, which will cause you to drop your ability. Pyribbit DX amps up the annoyance on these attacks. The first two waves sink down and disappear, while the last one has a gap in the wave but constantly moves back and forth.

* HePannedItNowHeSucks: IGN gave this game a ''6''/10 just because of the game (and the series as a whole)'s low difficulty level. Fans were NOT amused, claiming IGN is "biased against Nintendo" and "unreliable". The fact that the reviewer went on to say that no one over the age of twelve should get this game only made fans even ''angrier''. Weirdly, just a month before, the same writer posted a preview that made similar comments about how it's a kiddy game but said that that ''isn't'' and ''shouldn't'' be a problem for people.

** The game has 256 keychains to collect, which offer no purpose but are a nice throwback to previous games in the series. Unfortunately, the keychains obtained at the end of the level are random, and it's possible to obtain more than one copy of the same keychain, meaning 100% completion requires absurd grinding.
