YMMV / Jungle Run

Go To

  • Crowning Moment of Awesome: Whenever a team escapes with all four monkey statues, it's usually very awesome to see.
  • Funny Moments:
    • In the Olympians Special, 'Team GB' effortlessly run through all the challenges but what really takes the cake is in the temple, where they easily breeze through the temple and proceeds to just slowly walk like it was a cakewalk rather than rush out of the temple. Michael Underwood even says they were just "showing off".
    • Whenever a team earns all four monkey statues and have tonnes of time to walk back, they simply choose to run anyway.
      • In particular, the 'Jumping Monkeys' when they had over a minute to escape the temple (which is more than plenty of time), they still chose to run back as fast as they could. The team even lampshade this when one team member still wanted to leg it, with their reactions being "Oh c'mon!"
    • One team from the Chris Jarvis era managed to bang the stone monkey against a table, causing the monkey statue on top to break from the base. Chris joked that they didn't like the treasure inside.
    • Another team from the Chris Jarvis era tackled Elvis twice in the Monkey Trees, causing him to roll over comically. Even Chris couldn't stop laughing!
  • Heartwarming Moments: In the Christmas Special, presenter Michael Underwood receives a gift from Sid and Elvis and considering they work for the Jungle King and troll the teams, you'd think that this was just another prank from them but it wasn't. He actually receives a Jungle Run monkey, which is quite sweet considering it's one of the few times where they show an act of kindness towards the team and in turn, they got to celebrate Christmas with everyone else.
  • Never Live It Down: Team 'Wolf Spiders' are widely considered the worst team in the history of Jungle Run. Their lack of cooperation, constant quarreling and sacrificing more monkey statues than most teams do only left them with 30 seconds in the temple, which sounds understandable considering how little time they had until you realise there was another team who also had 30 seconds in the temple but still made it out (with a statue too).
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • Some of the challenges, including the Abandoned Camp which shows the skeleton of one of the previous explorers who tried to retrieve the monkey statues and failed, which ended up with deadly results.
    • Some younger viewers who watched the show at a young age really did believe you would get trapped in the temple forever, had a team failed to escape. Subverted for most of the older viewers though, who see it more as Nightmare Retardant than anything.
    • Tokat managed to terrify many people growing up with this show, thanks to his unnerving appearance, as well as suddenly waking up at the end after spending most of the challenge asleep.
    • Sid and Elvis themselves with each incarnation becoming more nightmarish. In the second incarnation, they became more prominent with even their hair and eyes seeming uncanny. In the third however, despite them having more comedic skits, their realistic colouration made things worse in that they seemed like real apes out to cause trouble.
  • Tear Jerker: Whenever a team member or the entire team gets locked in. Especially when only some of the team makes it out of the Temple.
    • And the episode with the (ironically named) 'Cackling Hyenas' is particularly gut-wrenching. One teammate performs a Heroic Sacrifice, another is locked in the temple and the Final Girl is consumed by her guilt over being responsible for her friend's entrapment by giving her terrible advice, in addition to being the only one to take home a prize.
    • Team 'Loony Toons', in particular with Lewis' lock-in. Much like the 'Cackling Hyenas', Lewis was locked-in when an unfortunate occurrence happened meaning he couldn't win any prizes, despite the team's huge effort. However, unlike said team, Lewis' lock-in was no fault of his own nor was it by bad decisions which makes this even worse.
    • Team 'Tropical Torpedoes'. They had a good run through the jungle, culminating with a narrow escape at the Old Pyramid. With 2:10, it was enough to get the gold statue, and they managed to get to it. However, they had less than 20 seconds to get out, and two of the team members got trapped, with one of them performing a Heroic Sacrifice with the silver statue. Survivor Guilt also applies here with the lone escapee receiving loads of prizes for himself, with the cost of his two teammates and the golden monkey.
  • The Woobie:
    • Lewis from the team 'Loony Toons' had an unfortunate run. He and his team did relatively well at first, even being able to score the Gold Monkey Statue. However, as he was running with the gold statue, he tripped over the rocks surrounding the sand and fell behind as a result. He was unable to make it back out with his team right before the time limit was over and missed out on the prizes. This also cost the team as a whole the gold statue since Lewis had it. The shots of Lewis' reaction during the aftermath makes it hard not to feel sorry for him. It doesn't help that his loss wasn't due to making the wrong decisions nor out of his own choice.
    • Aaliyah from the team 'Demolicious Girls' was never released from the monkey traps, and in the end, the team leader decided to release the other teammate. Like Lewis, this was through no fault of her own.
