• Aluminum Christmas Trees: At one point, June follows an opium dealer through a secret entrance into the catacombs of Paris, where she discovers his hidden (and contaminated) stash of illicit merchandise. It might sound like something the game made up, but there are secret entrances to the catacombs which are being used even today. It's illegal to use them because the catacombs can be dangerous, but this doesn't stop the cataphiles from venturing into them.
• Nightmare Fuel: The Davina Institution where Skye is forcibly committed by her father, as a result of her lesbian relationship with Virginia. It looks more like a prison than a health facility, and people are severely mistreated there.
  • June's nightmare after being imprisoned for Aaron Lamb's murder. Her dirty prison cell gradually fills with blood, and an evil version of herself accuses her of failing to save Kam-Chuen and Clare and Harry.
• The Woobie:
  • David West. Poor David. He broke into the police evidence locker and returned the money to the desperately destitute pregnant widow of a murder victim. In the process, he quit his job and decided to move closer to June, with whom he was in love with. And how did that end up for him? The victim names her daughter after June, who although contributed to the case, didn't think to use her significant wealth to help the widow, leaving David to resort to theft. To make matters worse, although David is smitten with June and wants to marry her, she literally runs away from him and eventually breaks up with him over her lingering feelings for Jack and her overall aversion to serious commitment. Broken hearted and bitter, he returns to Chicago.
  • June herself qualifies. Traumatized from the war, she finds happiness in her love for Nicky, only for her world to crash when he leaves her for another man. Then her father dies (her mother had abandoned the family years before), and a while later her sister and brother-in-law are murdered.
