YMMV / Hill Climb Racing

Go To

  • Broken Base: The tank. Some fans consider it the worst when starting out, and some the best at its max upgrades.
  • Contested Sequel: The sequel game. Some consider it an Even Better Sequel, some believe the added multiplayer mode and faithful mechanics to the original make it a good game in its own right (if not quite as good as the original), and some just dismiss it as a poor and unnecessary recreation of a perfectly good game.
  • Game-Breaker: There are a few candidates, but one that comes especially close is the Super Offroad. Imagine a vehicle with the traction of the Tank, but the rip-snorting speed of the race car and rally car. Fully-upgraded, the only thing you have to fear is its downforce wing falling off from landing badly, which causes it to launch absurd distances off of jumps at full speed, which sometimes isn't a bad thing.
    • Another example is the Hovercraft. When fully upgraded it have the same performance and grip than Super Offroad but it is permanent. You can easily climb extremely steep hills regardless of the speed which makes stages with not too much hazards easier. However some stages are still hard to do such as Neon, Jungle, Mars, or Ragnarok.
  • That One Achievement: Many achievements that requires you to drive miles and miles away without dying can get a lot difficult even with the Super Offroad or the Mutant like "Old-timer",note  "Jungle King",note  "Neon King", note  and many more.
    • The vehicle based achievements requires you to drive 1,000 kmnote  in every particular vehicle each. This is even worse in slow vehicles like Electric Car, Onewheeler and the Carantula.
    • "Challenger" requires you to complete ten daily challenges. Daily challenges requires you to reach certain distance without dying and most of the tracks they offer the challenge are difficult such as Countryside, Ragnarok or Factory due to the insane difficult platforming and traps that can kill you especially the blue water in the second former. Also you have five free tries. If you're out, you must spend diamonds ranging from 2 to 10.
    • "Potato Picker" requires you to make ten consecutive perfect harvests in Super Countryside. This means you must harvest in the order facing left to right to count as. If you accidentally harvest the second or so on located food without harvesting the first located one even in the ninth consecutive time, you must start all over again.
  • That One Level: Several of them:
    • The hill on the moon around 750m can function as more of a wall, especially for cars with minimal upgrades. The pit around 850m is even worse.
    • Neon, Ragnarok, Prognosis, Rainbow and Seasons contain lots of hazards such as moving platforms, very long steep hills which prevents you to climb if you don't have boosters which increases the chances to get killed especially by tipping over easily.
    • Mars, Seasons and Cave contain ceilings which if going too fast, it causes the risk of breaking the neck easily. Not to mention this makes large vehicles such as Tourist Bus or the Mutant with the huge wheel being stuck over narrow ceilings.
    • Ragnarok has lots of difficulty spike consisting of One-Hit Kill blue water and crushing pillars. One of the daily challenges uses this level.
