• Jerkass Woobie: Pansy may have been a huge Jerkass towards non-pure-blooded people, but ultimately, she's only a young woman who is unprepared for the horrors of the war unfolding right before her eyes.
• Nightmare Fuel: The story was taking place in a middle of a war. And when Death Eaters took over the Ministry, no one, not even children, is safe.
• Rescued from the Scrappy Heap:
  • Colin, who was simply an annoying fanboy of Harry in the books, is given much more depth in this fic.
  • Cho is also given a handful of hidden depths and her own adventures in the USA outside of simply being Harry's first crush.
• Tear Jerker:
  • When Hannah's mother got killed in an explosion, she let out a very heartwrenching cry.
  • Bridget's trial is a heart-wrencher from start to finish. The way she is unfairly prosecuted by Umbridge and was nearly subjected to the Dementor's Kiss is painful to watch.
  • Owen's Heroic Sacrifice when he tried to protect his mother from an incoming Killing Curse, which ends up killing both of them in one shot.
  • Arjuna's heartfelt letter after her Heroic Sacrifice and got killed by Montmercy was very sad yet uplifting. Seeing Harry, Ron, and Hermione's reaction to the letter was pretty heartbreaking.
  • Colin and Millicent's death after they got killed by Dolohov and Bellatrix respectively. Seeing Hannah, Cho, Dennis, and Kevin reacting to their corpses in The Great Hall is just heartbreaking.
    • Colin's death is particularly painful because of the context change. Here, it's not just a younger ally of Hannah's who dies; it's her little brother lying dead in front of her and all she can do is scream.
