- Base-Breaking Character: Quentin Quire being a member of the 2017 incarnation have divided fans with some not minding and others not happy given the fact that Quire was depicted as a Jerkass during Morrison era New X-Men and Aaron era Wolverine and the X-Men. Not helped by the fact that he's a Base-Breaking Character among longtime fans of the main X-titles.
- Spiritual Successor: To the Original Generation X. The team itself is one to the Special Class from Grant Morrison's run on X-Men, who were likewise a Ragtag Bunch of Misfits.
- Unexpected Character
- An entire cast of them aside from Jubilee, Monet, and to a lesser extent Quentin Quire.
- For the villains Kade Kilgore came out of left field mostly because people expected him to be trapped in the Siege Perilous.
