• Crosses the Line Twice: Carter having an affair? Not funny. His constant stream of Digging Yourself Deeper excuses to Peter? Amusing. Peter exclaiming "Eww!" so many times that his body runs out of Es and Ws (with one of the workers having to turn a bunch of Ms over despite there being "a lot of paperwork involved")? Hilarious.
• Unintentionally Unsympathetic: While Carter getting blackmailed by Peter (who then spills the beans regardless), being divorced by his wife after having an affair, and struggling during his return to bachelorhood is meant to invoke sympathy, a lot of fans instead saw it as Laser-Guided Karma, given how cruelly he's treated Peter for the past 20 years.
