• Crack Pairing: Estelle and Adriana is a pairing that has some popularity in spite of each other being entirely natural opponents from a writing angle - Estelle is a firefighter that wants to help people, and Adriana is a pyromaniac that wants to set fires regardless of common sense or morals.
• Fanon: Due to Rio liking cats and Irem being a Cat Girl that can transform into a cat, players naturally imagined that Rio would quite like Irem.
• It's Hard, So It Sucks!: Eternal Return has a lot of complex mechanics that need to be learned very early by new players, including how to complete their starting build quickly, knowing where to find ingredients for food, knowing how to make the most out of a Test Subject's abilities, knowing which matchups are favorable, and so forth. After only a few matches in a new-player queue, players will quickly get shunted into the normal queue against hardened veterans, many who will quickly punish new players for their inexperience. The sudden spike in difficulty in Player Versus Player matches can often turn off new players from continuing to play the game.
• They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: When the game went into its official 1.0 launch, Solo and Duo modes were removed from normal matches, and the game was heavily adjusted so that all matches would be in Squads (teams of three). Many players who liked playing Solo didn't like this change, though the developers stated they may bring Solo and Duo modes back in the future.
