• Harsher in Hindsight: Mark's domestic abuse became even harder to watch when such allegations against Richard Stanley emerged in 2021.
• Unintentionally Unsympathetic: The movie tries to paint the Dust Devil as a Tragic Monster who only wants to go back to the spirit realm, but the sheer enjoyment that he derives from its basic human pleasures, coupled with the fact that he puts many innocents in harm’s way and persuades others to want to die, and the time he takes to seduce his female victims strongly suggest otherwise.
