- Heartwarming Moments: The scenes where Sayori spends time with the other Literature Club members are a welcome break from Sayori's depressed thoughts.
- Nightmare Fuel: Monika giving Sayori nightmares and hallucinations.
- Sayori's last moments of consciousness as she hangs herself are described in gruesome detail, including the tremendous pain, her regret and desperate attempts to get out of the noose, and finally her resignation to the fact that she is going to die and her Dying Declaration of Love. Throughout it all, you also get to see her vision fading.
- Tear Jerker: Despite what you might choose for Sayori, she still ends up killing herself. The Deliberately Monochrome atmosphere and slowed music do well to emphasize Sayori's state of depression.
