- Alternate Character Interpretation: Mordo as being Evil All Along rather than having a FaceāHeel Turn. Mordo always wanted to ascend to Sorcerer Supreme and a lot of his bad tactical calls that get his teammates killed may simply be him removing the Ancient One's allies for a takeover. He only turns to Dormammu when he feels that they're losing the war. This may be why the Ancient One never intended for him to be his successor, and wasn't too surprised when Mordo betrayed him.
- Complete Monster: Dormammu is a demonic being who is responsible for the destruction of his own homeworld. Upon discovering Earth, Dormammu tried to attack it, only to be driven off by the Ancient One, who imprisoned him in Nexus. To free himself, Dormammu put dozens of children in a coma and used their minds to open enough veils to create a portal from Nexus to Earth. Influencing his monsters to rampage through the city and kill countless innocents, as well as the students of the Ancient One, Dormammu managed to free himself, after which he proclaimed his intention to raze the Earth and eradicate humanity.
- Ensemble Dark Horse: Amongst the Ancient One's disciples, Adena seems to stand out the most. It helps that she's the one who chooses to remain by Ancient One's side at the climax, which sadly lead to both their deaths.
