YMMV / Digimon Adventure 02 E50 "A Million Points of Light"

  • Broken Base: To say that the epilogue is controversial is a massive understatement. People who do like the epilogue usually point out that it’s the only time in Digimon anime canon where the characters are rewarded for their season-wide efforts with an unambiguously happy ending, especially as more and more Digimon series end with the main characters having to leave their Digimon friends for an indefinite amount of time. On the other hand, what a lot of people overlook is that the epilogue says every human on the planet got their own Digimon, which leads to all sorts of disturbing implications, namely what Digimon could do if working with terrorists, dictators and criminals.
  • Fanfic Fuel: The fact that there's an entirely new generation of Chosen Children has sent a number of fans scrambling to write about their adventures. It's also common to find fanfic that takes place during the 25-year gap between the ending and the epilogue, detailing how the Chosen Children grew up into the adults we see, how they chose their career paths, and how they adjusted to a world where Digimon are a universal part of daily life.
  • Fanon Discontinuity: Many fanfic writers ignore certain details such as Yamato and Sora being married, or some of the genders of the kids.
