- Broken Base:
- The removal of the Confederacy from the setting: necessary and natural change, or Political Overcorrectness?
- Some believe the game didn't go far enough in updating some of its more questionable elements.
- The choice to continue using "Indian" to refer to Native Americans and "Manitou" to refer to demons. The former was justified by consulting with Native American experts as a non-pejorative and period appropriate while the latter was referred to as a result of racism on the part of whites. Many fans felt they could have changed this anyway.
- The fact Utah remains independent of the United States despite the fact that the South is now conclusively defeated.
- They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: The destruction of the Confederacy is something that many players felt would have made an excellent Plot Point campaign for time traveling PCs.
