YMMV / Awkwafina is Nora from Queens

Go To

  • Adorkable:
    • Underneath the substance abuse and vulgar speak, Nora is this in spades.
    • Grace, Nora's assistant in "China", whose Nervous Wreck eagerness to help make her endearingly sympathetic.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: The comical sincerity and/or sex appeal of Shu Shu, Garbage Boy, and Doc Hottie went a long way towards turning 'Grandma & Chill' into the first season's best-received episode.
  • Les Yay: Grace is a little too eager to make Nora feel comfortable. Nora herself also comes off as rather protective of Grace. Grace announces in the third season finale that she loves Nora "in a friend's way."
  • Tear Jerker:
    • “Tales From The Blackout” reveals Nora once had a friendship with a phone sex operator named Wilma. While that bit is Played for Laughs, Nora stating that Wilma was the closest she had to a mom is where everyone stops laughing.
    • “Home”, when Amos shows Nora the letter that Grandma wrote her, where she writes how lonely she has felt since the start of the COVID-19 lockdown with Wally staying with Brenda and Grandma not being able to go outside.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Season three ends with an episode that rushes through Nora conversing with Awkwafina in another dimension, Wally winning back Brenda's affections, Wally and Brenda marrying, and Nora buying out the bodega where she works. Some of these stories might've provided interesting material for individual episodes, had the season run the usual 10 instead of just seven.
