• Broken Base: Samantha is probably the most divisive of the "classic" American Girl heroines. To some fans, she's a brave, kind, likable girl who, despite her wealthy, traditionalist upbringing, goes through effective growth regarding social concerns thanks to her Interclass Friendship with Nellie and her suffragist Aunt Cornelia. To other fans, she's just a bland, privileged rich white girl, nowhere near as compelling as other girls in the series who personally face poverty and hardship, yet who is disproportionately popular for her glamorous clothes and lifestyle.
