- Angst? What Angst?: The students go through hell on a deserted island after a plane crash that costs the lives of the pilot and their coach, and two of their fellow students die later on, but when a boat finally comes to their rescue, they're all suddenly happy and jumping with glee. Unlike what happens in the book, the main character never breaks into tears over the trauma he has experienced.
- Retroactive Recognition: Andy is played by a then-young Roderick Paulate, who becomes very well-known for his comedic roles, often playing Camp Gay characters in comedy films.
- Values Dissonance: There are scenes of unsimulated cruelty to animals, one with a chicken and one with the boar, especially the latter (you know where that was going if you read the book). A fawn was also seen tied to its legs upside down on a stick during the first hunting scene, and if it was killed later on, it's unknown because it wasn't filmed. This would not fly well with animal rights groups today.
