- Awesome Music: The main strength of this opera is in its music.
- Cliché Storm: So many cliches are used here. The rivalry between Adriana and the Princess is straight out of Verdi's Aida, and the Act IV finale might as well be out of Verdi's La traviata.
- Ham and Cheese: The title role and the Princess de Bouillon are both very hammy roles, and if there's no proper acting talent, it can become very cheesy.
- Moral Event Horizon: The Princess de Bouillon crosses this when she poisons Adriana with the violets she gave to Maurizio.
