  • Some fans believe Phoenix to be this, as he is less smug overall than he was in the Apollo Justice trilogy and he is considerably warmer toward his close friends. Still, he does retain a bit of the edge he picked up in Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney without the propensity for screaming in court, as he did in the rest of the second trilogy. It helps that his sprites are the same ones as the original trilogy, albeit edited with the Apollo trilogy's design.
  • Edgeworth could also be considered this because he is considerably less petty and smug than he was in the Apollo Justice Trilogy, at least toward the lawyers. He wasn't necessarily warm or affectionate in the original trilogy, but his concern for others was apparent and it carries over to this iteration, particularly since he's worried his loved ones will fall victim to a psychopathic serial killer.
  • Trucy is no longer characterized by the existence of her magic panties, though Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice also gave her slightly more development, meaning this is also just following in its footsteps.
  • Fans who disliked Ema's constant back-and-forth between Khura'in and Japanifornia (Japaryland, if we go by this game's universe) will be pleased to see that she "lost" her passport and is dragging her feet in getting a new one, thus keeping her in one location.
