• Moral Event Horizon: Quentin. Not only did he betray and horribly mutilate an innocent young man in his crazed quest to bring back his dead wife, the boy was his own son. And worse, still, he uses blood magic to mind-control Anders (Amell's lover) into doing the deed rather than dirty his own hands.
  • Constable Leonie makes herself unlikable both to the reader and to the protagonists more or less from her introduction, but her decision to destroy the city of Amaranthine in an attempt to destroy the invading darkspawn is what causes Amell's Wardens to turn on her. It should be noted also that, even after the protagonists charge into Amaranthine in an effort to rescue the innocent citizens, Leonie does not cease in her bombardment of the city.
  • From Anders own point-of-view, his own murder of Bardel in a blind rage is this - not to mention how he almost killed Isabela and Hawke in addition (giving the latter a scar in the process).
• Rescued from the Scrappy Heap:
  • Oghren is often an unpopular character due to his often slapstick comedy role in the game, but if his Undying Loyalty to Amell in this fic (as well as the other Wardens) doesn't melt your heart towards him at least a little bit, it'll be a surprise.
  • Possibly Velanna as well; though still abrasive, provocative, and hard to get along with, she becomes the character we all cheer for when she stands up to Leonie after Amell leaves.
• Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: Even by the standards of Dragon Age canon, this fic is dark. Stand-out examples include the deterioration of Amell and Anders' relationship after the latter is forced via blood magic to gouge out the former's eyeballs, followed not long after by Amell leaving forever to go on his Calling. Possibly in an attempt to avert this trope, the author promises at the story's onset that the fic will eventually result in a happy ending for Anders.
