The Shameless Monster Island Buddies Reboot is exactly what it says on the tin.

Tropes:

Abusive Parents: Godzilla himself, a trait he carried from his own father, the original Gojira of 1954, who treated him in a neglectful and rude way, however, he has gotten better and now cares for his family much more.

  • Monster X also has issues with his own father, Grand King Ghidorah. King Ghidorah likewise has the same issues with X, who...really isn't the best father.

Action Figure Speech: Since all the characters are toys, this is a given. Orga lampshades it in the Monster Island Mailbag of "Jet Jaguar meets Ultraman":

Orga: Hey, has anyone ever wondered why only one of us can move at a time?

Adaptational Jerkass: Ultraman, much like in his debut series, was originally a benevolent and dedicated alien protector of Earth and other planets hailing from the Land of Light. However, in this continuity, he sought fame and became a television celebrity which also caused him to forget the true meaning of being a hero. Not only is he condescending, vain and arrogant toward his fans and everybody else, he willingly sides with the Ghidorahs and the bad monsters during the war just because they had a better dental plan than the good monsters. Needless to say, an ongoing arc has a disappointed Zoffy sending him to Earth once more so he can learn to be a true hero once more, forcing Ultraman to make a team with Godzilla, Rodan, Gorosaurus and a Pigmon as he struggles to be a hero again.

Adaptational Villainy: King Kong goes from a neutral Earth monster to a rotten sociopath obssessed with taking Godzilla's place as King of the Monsters.

Big Bad: Each season has had at least one major antagonist.

  • Season One: King Ghidorah, albeit comedically.

  • Season Two: The L.E.S.B.I.A.N.S. or rather their leader, Zaguresu. Actually, that's what it seems like at first glance.

  • Season Three: X's Big Bad Ensemble and Jet Jaguar

  • Season Four: Technically BLUNDERGOSH and Cthulu

  • Season Five: The X-Forces from Season 3 now being more involved

  • Season Six: Gojira, the true leader of the L.E.S.B.I.A.N.S being another Big Bad.

  • Season Seven: Grand King Ghidorah leading Team Ghidorah.

  • Season Eight has Nyarlathotep as the last evil for our heroes to face.

All Girls Want Bad Boys: Zigzagged with Mothra when she hooks back up with King Ghidorah in Season 5. Primarily for them to stop the war between their ancestors, but clearly because she found him more handsome and stronger than Rodan.

Heroic Sacrifice:

Godzilla has one in "Ghidorah VS Monster Island Buddies".

Rodan has a similar one in "Millenium".

All Animals Are Dogs: Post S1!Anguirus, despite being a giant mutant ankylosaur, has the intelligence of a dog and behaves pretty much like one. In fact, the only dialogue he has consists of barking. It's eventually revealed this was just an act to protect Minilla, The Chosen One. After his cover is discovered, Anguirus speaks normally and more constantly.

Greater-Scope Villain: Hastur, Destroyer of Worlds

Man Behindthe Man: Nyarlathotep is this with all Heel lifeforms
