Din’s father died of drug overdose or alcohol poisoning.
This make Din’s mother accusing Dib for drinking alcohol and involved in drugs in a dark light.- It could also explain why they're stuck in poverty; Din's father could have squandered all spare income on his addiction, on to of having difficulty holding down a job if he's always drunk or high.
- After Din’s father died from substance abuse, Din’s mother made a vow to give her son a better life and not end up like his addict father.
If Long had granted Din's third wish ("make me rich"), he would not have gotten into heaven.
The terms, as he explains them, were to "serve ten masters and learn the meaning of life". Long's new understanding of compassion, demonstrated when he shows Din his backstory to warn him that being rich might not solve all his problems after all, was more important, and that combined with his Heroic Sacrifice was what got him into heaven (before he asked to be sent back to finish helping Din).- Perhaps if he did it the moment Din asked this would be the case. Long does say he'll grant Din's wish afterward if that's what he really wants; if he did, he might have still gotten into heaven, because he clearly understood what was really important even if Din no longer did. (Note that granting Pockets' wish didn't bar him from heaven.)
Long's previous masters weren't much better than he was.
Long clearly still believes that wealth and power are most important after hundreds of years and nine other masters. He's also very impatient for Din to wish for wealth as if it's an obvious wish. His former masters were probably either people of similar status that wanted more, or peasants who wished to be of that status, thereby reinforcing the idea in Long's head that that was all that mattered. This is also probably why Din was directly handed the teapot by the Pipa God, as by then he decided that he should personally vet the final master to make sure he wouldn't make the same mistake. Pockets used to be a monk in a temple.
It could explain why he is bald and has kung fu skills. He could be a monk who gone rogue and got banished from the temple.
