In reference to the Intentional Period Piece reference, how to deal with 9/11 ultimately caused the fic to stop updating.
There's a concrete point where the fic cannot happen earlier than. When cleaning up bits of the Abomination storyline, two characters discuss the late Douglas Adams. Adams died on 11 May 2001, which would fit the current entry for the fic (it claims to be 2000 at the latest, which would fit for how much time passes from when the plot swings into action to this point); presumably the other characters would know a little later (the New York Times's obituary ran on 15 May).
Four months later, something else major happened. And if Aiko would bring the team to London for a demon attack, then bringing them to New York for what happened there would be a matter of everyone involved finding out and getting together — and they have a LOT of ways of finding things out. So 9/11 would not go unnoticed.
..if it happens at all, anyway. Anthony Murray's takedown is one hell of a butterfly wing and everyone's already in-story talking about the hurricanes that result. It's not unreasonable that someone like him could have had some distant connection, even if it's the process of finding odd other transactions while investigating the hell out of him.
Given this, I think Pixel Writer 1 was left with some awkward choices.

Oops, all the terrorist funding got turned up in the investigations of the global financial networks. If nothing else, it could postpone events as money dries up and they figure another time is better. Pro, it doesn't have to be addressed. Con, it is a pretty formative event, and navigating the 2000s without that is hard to predict..very hard.
9/11 is uncovered.
Oops, all the terrorist funding got turned up, and it points to a particular group. Can range from an offhand news story about a plot up to a daring raid involving martial artists. Pro, it can be acknowledged and used for either filler or as an adventure. Con ... same as above.

Oops, all the terrorist funding went where it was sent. Pro, for the most part there's an idea of what events take place. Con, what changes when the Sisterhood of Doom gets involved with cleanup?
I think trying to sort this out, and how this would be orders of magitude less fun to read about than the other big events in the fic, likely led to an indefinite postponement.
