Marie Locke is descended from Precursor James.

Precursor James being a skeleton, and Marie Locke applying a skull facepaint, may be more than a coincidence. Locke's ambiguous past and inconsistent records, coupled with her observed lethality in combat, all suggest she's more than what she seems, and that preternatural combat skill may have been passed down from the ancestor. Her having been the direct descendant of a founder—particularly one with such a boogeyman reputation as James—may have attracted unwanted attention which she only managed to get clear of when the records were wiped.
