Hi, I'm Rick Desilets, a web development teacher, independent filmmaker, and radio host based out of Somerville, Massachusetts. While my employment has shifted significantly over the years, one constant is my love of film and stage, something I've actively pursued since 2004. I currently host a radio show-turned-You Tube channel called The D Pad, direct the film company Two Bit Pictures, and film and edit videos for Quiet Lunch Magazine.

My acting credits thus far include:

  • Comedy Wears a Tie (2008)
  • Something Remote (2009, feature film)
  • Something Remote (2009, web series)
  • Army of Darkness: sweded (2009)
  • Command & Conquer 3: The Forgotten (2010)
  • 10-54 in Progress (2011)
  • How Many? (2011)
  • Outside the Box (2012)
  • The Interview (2013)
  • Late Night Shift (2013)
  • Pipe Dreams (2013)
  • Love Fang (2013)
  • Shots (2014)

My directorial and writing credits thus far include:

  • Mantequilla Magica (2009)
  • Looking Forward (2011)
  • 10-54 in Progress (2011)
  • Silver Lining (2011)
  • How Many? (2011)
  • Boiling Point (2012)
  • Outside the Box (2012)
  • DIY (2012)
  • The Interview (2013)
  • Late Night Shift (2013)
  • Pipe Dreams (2013)
  • Love Fang (2013)
  • Shots (2014)
  • Green Bird (2017)

I have also worked on the crew of Broken Wall Films' Decay Chain tech demo, Matt Nakoa's "Beggar by the Weekend" music video, Geena Matuson's My Big Bad Wolf, and two Emerson films, Double Zero and Flawless.

Have some tropes!

  • Artist Disillusionment: The original mindset while Shots was being written. A very different disillusionment took its place while the film is being produced.
    • To explain, the original 2009 screenplay, That's Life, was written as part of a script contest under Broken Wall Films, with the inspiration being the "quarter-life crisis". It still bleeds through the 2013 version.
  • Black Sheep: Not in a bad way, mind. As a filmmaker and radio host, I just don't fit in much with my more mechanically-oriented family.
  • Cool Uncle: I do have a very famous uncle, but I usually keep that relation under wraps so I can try to make it on my own instead of looking like I'm riding his coattails. We have different last names, however, so I don't have to pull a Nicolas Cage.
  • Descended Creator: Occasionally I wind up in the things I create or direct.
    • In 10-54 in Progress, I played Duncan the Lab Analyst, mostly because we wrote too many parts and ran out of actors (we also wound up casting our cameraman). We did the same for How Many? and Outside the Box.
    • Late Night Shift featured me as the main character, werewolf Brian Higgins. Mostly because I had a lot of hair. I reprised the role for a cameo the follow-up, Pipe Dreams, and will have a significant role in the finale at the end of July.
    • I will have a small cameo in Shots in homage to creators like Alfred Hitchcock, Quentin Tarantino, and Kevin Smith.
  • Teasing Creator: I love dropping aggravatingly vague hints as to what I'm working on. For example, 2014 will mark the start of my "Hats Trilogy". Silver, blue, and green, whatever could they mean?
