- Breakthrough Hit: Originally funded on Kickstarter by just under $3k, the book was self-published in 2014. By 2015, the novel was republished by Hodder & Stoughton, and in 2016, it was shortlisted for the Arthur C. Clarke Award.
- Write What You Know: The series is fairly soft for sci-fi but Chambers has mentioned that she has a very space-oriented family background. Her mom teaches astrobiology, her dad is a retired aerospace engineer and her grandfather worked on Apollo and Shuttle.
